Custommedia made it to the Top Five of the Next Generation Logistics Open Data Contest 2017, an international open competition organised by Japan’s Frameworx, Inc, a Daiwa House Group company, and YRP Ubiquitous Networking Laboratory (UNL).
At the awards ceremony was held in the University of Tokyo on November 13, 2017, Team Custommedia received a special Honourable Mention award for its submission; the Smart Truck Delivery Planner (STDP) in the Study Report category.
STDP is an application that has been designed to help companies improve efficiency of its logistics operation, focusing on deliveries of goods by trucks (or other land transportation vehicles) sub-operation.
STDP leverages on Open Data, which could come from internal and/or external sources, and produces analytics reports that would help drivers be better prepared for their delivery assignments before, during and after each run.
The application also relies on Custommedia’s own IoT-Middleware to establish remote communications with the Command Centre as well as pen GPS services such as Waze and Google Map for updates on traffic conditions.
The Next Generation Logistics Open Data Contest is an annual competition and was introduced in 2016.
Offering awards totalling 5 million Japanese Yen, the contest call for submissions of new proposals for applications, web services, reports, and “gadgets” in several categories of logistics essential in an era when Artificial Intelligence (AI) is used by developers, researchers, students, and others.
